1. Appearance inspection
Color uniformity:
High-quality PTFE ladder rings should have uniform color without obvious color difference or spots. If the color is uneven, it may be due to uneven mixing of materials or the presence of impurities.
For example, a white PTFE ladder ring should be pure white, not yellow, gray or other mixed colors.
Surface flatness:
Observe whether the surface of the ladder ring is flat and smooth. The surface of high-quality products should have no obvious defects such as unevenness, cracks, bubbles or burrs.
Surface flatness directly affects the flow state and mass transfer efficiency of the fluid in the packing layer. A rough surface may increase the resistance of the fluid and reduce the performance of the equipment.
Dimensional accuracy:
Check whether the size of the ladder ring meets the standard requirements. Dimensional accuracy includes parameters such as outer diameter, inner diameter, and height. The dimensional deviation of high-quality PTFE ladder rings should be small to ensure that they can be closely arranged when loaded into the packing tower to improve the mass transfer efficiency.
You can use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to measure and compare the actual size of the product with the nominal size to see if it is within the allowable error range.
2. Physical performance test
Density:
The density of PTFE step rings is generally between 2.1 and 2.3 g/cm³. By measuring the density of the product, you can preliminarily judge the purity and quality of its material.
Too high density may be due to the addition of too many fillers or impurities, while too low density may be due to foaming or pores in the material. You can use instruments such as densitometers for measurement.
Hardness:
PTFE itself has a low hardness, but after special treatment or the addition of fillers, its hardness can be improved to a certain extent. You can use a hardness tester to test the hardness of the step ring to understand its wear and pressure resistance.
Products with moderate hardness can maintain good shape stability during use and are not easy to deform or break.
Tensile strength and elongation at break:
Tensile strength and elongation at break are important indicators for measuring the mechanical properties of PTFE materials. High-quality PTFE step rings should have high tensile strength and appropriate elongation at break.
A universal material testing machine can be used to perform tensile tests to observe the performance of the product under stress. Products with high tensile strength can withstand large external forces without breaking, and moderate elongation at break indicates that the product has a certain degree of flexibility and is not easy to break.
3. Chemical performance test
Corrosion resistance:
PTFE has excellent chemical corrosion resistance and can resist the erosion of various strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solvents and other corrosive media. The PTFE step ring can be immersed in different chemical reagents to observe its changes over a certain period of time.
For example, the step ring is immersed in hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide solution, ethanol and other reagents respectively, and taken out after a certain period of time to observe whether there is corrosion, dissolution or discoloration on its surface. If the product has no obvious changes after soaking, it means that it has good corrosion resistance.
High temperature resistance:
PTFE step rings should have good high temperature resistance and be able to work stably for a long time within a certain temperature range. The product can be placed in a high temperature environment for heating testing to observe its performance changes at different temperatures.
For example, put the step ring into the oven, gradually increase the temperature, and observe its dimensional stability, hardness change, color change, etc. at different temperatures. If the product has no obvious deformation, softening or other abnormal phenomena at high temperature, it means that it has good high temperature resistance.
4. Other aspects
Brand and manufacturer reputation:
Choosing PTFE step rings produced by well-known brands and reputable manufacturers usually has better quality assurance. You can understand the reputation and product quality of the manufacturer by checking the manufacturer's qualification certificate, product certification, user evaluation, etc.
Famous brand manufacturers usually have stricter quality control systems and after-sales service, and can provide users with better products and technical support.
Price factors:
Although price is not the only criterion for judging product quality, too low a price may mean that there are problems with product quality. When choosing a PTFE step ring, don't just pursue low prices, but consider factors such as product quality, performance and price.
If the price is significantly lower than the market average, it may be that the product has deficiencies in materials, manufacturing processes, etc., and needs to be selected carefully.
